Sure! We can add your choice for cake flavor onto your order whenever you decide.

How many servings should I order?

The Cakes

Can I taste the cakes?

Yes! We offer two ways to try our cakes, you can either schedule a tasting or order a sample cake to pick up and try at home.  Sample cakes are a great way to try the exact flavor combination that you are looking for.  Each sample is a 6” cake composed of three layers of cake with two layers of filling that is then covered in a layer of butter cream with the option of adding fondant to try.  Each sample serves 6-8 people and are $25 a piece.  If you need guidance on choosing a flavor combination please call us, we are here to help!

Can I come in to see the cakes?

Yes, we do offer tastings/consultations by appointment only.  Our website and step by step ordering system was designed to minimize costs and make your cake selection stress free, but sometimes one feels the need for some face to face to discuss the details of the cake.  We offer a consultation meeting and chef’s tasting for 3 cakes and fillings for $50.  If you end up booking your cake, we will apply a credit on the balance of your cake order.   The tasting fee can be paid at the time of the meeting by either cash or check.

Can I alter the cake design, say tint the icing?

Yes and no.  The cakes from this line are set and cannot be altered without incurring a fee. However if you would like something detailed and more personalized you may visit our sister company, www.cakesbynicolle.us, we would be happy to create the cake of your dreams.

I am thinking of a small display cake and sheet cake on the side, will you do that?

At A Simple Cake sheet cake is the same price per serving as the display cake- so make it grand!

I have dietary concerns, are you able to accommodate me?

We are not able to alter our recipes at A Simple Cake.

How many tiers would my cake be?

The number of servings you require will determine the number of tiers the cake will have. Below are the basic guidelines.
Note: a cake for 60 and a cake for 100 would both be a 3 tiered cake, but the width of the layers would be adjusted to accommodate the number of servings the cake provides.

Servings of 50-100 = 3 tiered cake
Servings of 100-200 = 4 tiered cake
Servings of 200-300 = 5 tiered cake
Servings of 300-400 = 6 tiered cake

What’s the difference between fondant and butter cream?

Fondant: A sugar dough that is molded over the cake creating a smooth, clean porcelain look.  There is a layer of buttercream between the cake and fondant layer.

Butter cream: A Swiss meringue butter cream with a delicate taste and slightly off white color.

Can I have butter cream on a hot day?

If you are having your wedding in a temperature controlled environment,  absolutely.  If you are planning an outdoor reception, you may want to opt for fondant but let’s chat about the venue and delivery details.

What are dragees?

These are edible sugar balls that have been coated with silver.

May I provide you with my own ribbon to wrap around the cake?

Of course! Please phone us to get the length of ribbon you would need to provide us with.
